The School of the Freudian Letter (SFL) is a school of psychoanalytic formation grounded in the work of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. It understands formation not as the acquisition of a qualification, but as an ongoing work of analysis, study, questioning and participation. At the centre of the SFL is the question of desire: what does it mean to desire psychoanalysis and, eventually, to assume responsibility for the analytic Act? The School's work brings together personal analysis, seminars, Cartels, clinical and theoretical presentations, writing and discussion. Cartels provide a space in which members read, question, disagree and develop their own questions in relation to psychoanalytic texts.

The SFL understands formation as open-ended. It does not end simply with the passage of time or the accumulation of knowledge. After sustained formation, members may enter the School's Process of Transliteration, concerning the passage from the position of the analysand toward the responsibility of analytic practice. This is not a professional title, but a moment of recognition within an ongoing formation. The School continues to develop its Freudian and Lacanian orientation through its different societies and communities, including the Cyprus Society of the SFL. Its purpose is to provide a place where psychoanalysis can remain alive: read, questioned, spoken, written, practiced and transmitted.
